Hotel Grand Chancellor (HGC) set out to create a much-needed premium hotel in Auckland’s city centre. The project consultant team crafted a thoughtful design that met planning requirements while innovating in engineering to ensure the building was fit for purpose and achieved the client’s return-on-investment goals. The result is a 12-storey hotel with a glass façade, unobstructed northern views, a single basement level, and 191 guest rooms. Its prime location next to the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) makes it an essential accommodation option once the NZICC opens.
As the main contractor, NZ Strong was involved from the early contractor involvement (ECI) phase, providing value engineering suggestions before construction began. Our involvement covered every aspect of the project, from enabling works to completion, including extensive demolition, piling, ground works, façade construction, and the hotel fit-out across all floors.
